The Lake District is famous for its markets, so it will come as no surprise that Lake District Christmas markets are in plentiful supply too! If you love sipping a hot glass of mulled wine while you peruse beautiful and unique gifts for your loved ones, then the Lakes is your place for this year’s Christmas shop!

What makes the Lake District so unique for Christmas Markets though? You may ask. Well, from totally unique and locally produced crafts, to herdwick woollen goods; fantastic local Cumbrian delicacies and even beautiful, bespoke Cumbrian designer pieces- you’re sure to find a gift for everyone at a Lake District Christmas market.

Here are a few of our favourites:

1. Keswick Victorian Fayre – Sun 1st Dec 2019

With an array of free live entertainment, including bands, choirs, dancers and more; a children's funfair, and over 30 stalls selling a selection of homemade crafts, produce, and festive food and drink – the Keswick Victorian Fayre is a great day out for the family, right in the centre of bustling Keswick.

And dont miss the Christmas light switch-on and fayre in Keswick! 22nd Nov 2019

Keswick Christmas Lights will be switched on this year by the local firemen and firewomen of Keswick. The official switch on will take place at 7pm, with bands playing in the main square from 6.15pm, and a guest appearance from Peter Rabbit.

2. Hawkshead Christmas Fair – Sat 7th Dec – Sun 8th Dec 2019

Hawkshead Christmas fair offers a full day of Christmas themed joviality, with Children’s Rides; over 50 market and seasonal gift Stalls; street entertainment; carol singing; seasonal food and ales, and Christmas lights. There is even a beer festival the same weekend, being hosted in all of the Hawkshead pubs!

3. Windermere Christmas Celebration – Sat 14th Dec – Sun 15th Dec 2019

Windermere Christmas Celebration is in its fourth year now, and this family-friendly festive event is bigger and better than ever this year- with an all new ice-skating rink too! Get ready for snow cannons; Santa’s Grotto, and live music, as well as over 50 festive stalls and your fair-share of mulled wine!

4. Lowther Christmas Market – Fri 22nd Nov – Sun 24th Nov 2019

“The be-all and end-all of Cumbrian Christmas markets” A vast array of stalls, selling the highest-quality produce and gifts, that you won’t find anywhere on the high-street. Lowther Christmas market is in its second year now and prides itself in its hand-picked, top quality Christmas stalls, as well as excellent street-food and live music.

5. Holker Winter Market – Fri 1st Nov – Sun 3rd Nov 2019

Lots of exciting local stalls and food vendors at this lively three-day Winter market. When you’ve shopped till you’ve dropped, there always more to explore at the historical Holker Hall and gardens, a perfect day out for the family.

6. Taste Cumbria Christmas Market, Cockermouth

“From mulled wine and mince pies, to festive fizz and fancy cakes, all the flavours of the season will be on offer in Cockermouth at the 2019 Taste Cumbria Christmas festival.”

If you’re a foodie; especially a Christmas foodie- then the Taste Cumbria Christmas market will be the jewel in the crown of your Lake District visit. Experience two days of fantastic food. There will be a giant producers’ market with over 60 stalls selling; a hot food court with meals and snacks, and a bar... (arguably the best bit).

It’s not all food though, there will also be a fairground and Christmas themed arts and crafts- something for the whole family.
